Oliver E. Williamson (1932-2020), American economist and professor emeritus of economics and business administration at the University of California. His major works include Markets and Hierarchies: Analysis and Antitrust Implications (1975), The Economic Institutions of Capitalism: Firms, Markets, Relational Contracting (1985), and The Mechanisms of Governance (1996). His fields of specialization were economics of organizations, transaction cost theory, boundaries of the firm, and economics of governance.
